Salvatore D'Agostino years ... Domenico Di Siena, a native of ..., a migrant. .., what is your occupation?
Domenico Di Siena
I'm 31 years old.
where I'm from: I grew up in a small town in southern Lazio Coreno Ausonius, Ciociaria village (province of Frosinone), located in a charming hill a few kilometers from the sea and not far from the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park.
where I went: I started my studies in Architecture at the University of Rome La Sapienza . After four years I decided to apply for an Erasmus scholarship to Paris.
Where I was lucky enough to attend, during an academic year, courses at Ecole d'Architecture de la Villette . What I appreciated most about this experience were the lessons Urban planning and cultural environment that is breathed.
After this experience I had no desire to return to Italy or to Rome or to La Sapienza. So I decided to continue with the discovery of new cultures and new ways of thinking about and teaching architecture, and I went to Madrid - where I could count on some good friends already - and that is where I reside permanently for the past 6 years.
c h I do: I work in Urban Social Design, and I dedicate it to the design of spaces and dynamics that improve social relations in an urban setting. The professional activity is closely linked to the research developed at the 'Universidad Politécnica de Madrid , oriented to the study of new models of design and management of public space. With particular attention to emerging trends in new technologies.

Madrid is a cultural capital of Europe with an attractive, full of contradictions and liberty would never have thought possible to live there.
La gestione degli spazi pubblici sembra problematica soprattutto because our politicians are completely unable to understand the dynamics and then to accompany them in the direction most convenient to the community. They are terrified by the possibility of losing control and prefer to restrict the scope for use across classifications and regulations that greatly restricts any potential social and collective. Living
this process when the city still retains a minimum of character, can be interesting and may help to understand the reasons, the dynamics and consequences of urban future. Allowing us to propose solutions and projects that improve the city and somehow curb the degrading trends.
such as the ' Ecobulevar in Vallecas or the recent childhood education complex with an adjacent square to Rivas Vaciamadrid .
While chatting to prepare for this interview I was intrigued that your sentence: "I like to call cyber-architect and think of being a planner."
Can you explain this self-definition?
S ono past few weeks from our first exchange of ideas during which I was able to gain some thoughts that brooded for some time.

In our study (ed. Urban Ecosystem ) work on projects that are difficult to associate architecture. Develop a new definition of what we do helps us to communicate in a strategic way and achieve the objectives of our work and therefore to innovate our profession.
We are currently working on a web platform that allows citizens to express themselves about their neighborhood or city. At first glance it might seem a simple draft referendum or, at best a kind of participatory planning. In fact, the goal is to use the interest that citizens have for their city as an opportunity to catalyze new networks and contacts between neighboring district. In other words, it tries to create the fertile ground necessary to create new relationships and social activities, built directly from the bottom.
This type of dynamics is to be the basis on which to build innovative processes of design based on the presence of physical elements (platforms) and communication technologies (digital). The architectural profession in this way is not meant only as a designer of spaces, but as a consultant (manager) able to define the physical and social dynamics, needed to catalyze processes of self-organization.
In the ongoing work reflection and self-criticism that we pursue in the study we realized that it has reached a savoir faire that has to do with not only the architectural quality but also with the ability to catalyze and manage the different processes converging towards a single goal: we move into our intervention on several fronts: social, economic, architectural, technical and policy without ever forgetting the importance of communication.

What do you mean by communication?
Communication is an essential component of the design process. Accurately convey to employees, customers and users, the features and objectives of each step is a key to make a good project.
Today, however, communication means so much more.
communication is becoming the need of every professional. Until a few years ago appear in major magazines could be the key to increasing the professional prestige and visibility of their study today on the one hand is no longer sufficient and the other is no longer the only way .
The prestige, reputation, or rather, it begins to be something that is achieved by sharing the results of their work from beginning its process of production / creation. No longer confined to woo the most important journals and publishers to give more visibility to the quality of our work. Each trader now has the means to publicize their work. The biggest obstacle is methodological rather than structural. The distributed communication is based on continuous dialogue and horizontal. The hierarchy is replaced by reputation. Young designers and small businesses are starting to build its reputation directly from below, communicating directly with other professionals.
more alert and innovative professionals base their work on an ongoing process of research and innovation.
in this setting is always more interesting to share with other professionals (e non) i risultati del proprio lavoro generando una rete che si alimenta continuamente con nuove idee e contenuti.

The factors that contribute to this situation are manifold. In Italy you can breathe
power, is a feeling that accompanies us in personal and professional life. We are used, the breathe every day, in a sense we are accustomed. Over the past twenty to thirty years' it has got worse: in virtually every sector, power is held by a generation old, and with the word old, I do not mean disrespect to those who are older, but rather highlighting the plight of decay and lack of vision of the future.
The company is locked, the Italian cities are becoming borghetti anchored to old models development, torn from a dimension affected by the daily worship of the image continually spalmataci him from the media.
When I think of the years spent in Rome, I realize that the city has ever offered me the opportunity to be part of his identity as a driver of innovation. In Italian cities there is no possibility of being involved in shaping a local identity, we only consume identity rifilataci beautiful chewed.
In other words, in Italy more than in other European countries perceive the action of power that constantly resizes any effort innovation.
However, I am convinced that it will be just Italy to provide the most innovative forms of participatory democracy and new forms of open-government.
The sad experience that has accumulated over decades of oligarchy in Italy contribute to the creation of initiatives to propose a new model of land management.
In this process probably will play an important role in the use of new technologies. In my view, in this sense, two of the most innovative projects worldwide to have its Italian: criticalcity.org is an urban regeneration project and the other is fun and participatory openparlamento.it a project that promotes greater transparency in the management public by facilitating the direct participation citizenship.
Through your study you run a blog . What is a blog for an architect?
To understand what good is a blog, perhaps it is useful to refer to the concept of commons in Italian could be translated roughly as result.
We are facing a new professional ecosystem that allows us to develop ideas and projects from operator to another person, other professionals or other companies.
The birth of this ecosystem is still in process, especially in Italy, for reasons cultural and structural. One of main problems is the dependence on the presence of intermediaries such as associations, organizations and magazines.
Although slowly, the parts of this ecosystem professional begin to communicate without intermediaries. This communication is more effective and fast, it promotes a new model of work that we can define networking . Communication becomes a relationship and dialogue, strengthening a model that recognizes the importance of the commons.
The press, like all institutions of the sector, are used to being containers and promoters of professional debate, and struggle to accept being alone promoters since the container is the network in which we are all prosumers: producers and consumers, in this case, the debate.
The debate is constantly shifting towards those nodes that others know better than to promote the exchange of ideas and opinions true: the system that allows it to grow and innovate.
Having a blog means to cure and give life to this ecosystem.
Where are you going?
I wish I could answer simply: I'm in the right direction! But who can say?
Maybe I do not know where I go, but I know where I want to go.
We are experiencing a historic revolution, comparable to that of '68. Just like then you are creating a rift between the ruling class (old) and Culture emerging, the young. The reality we inherited is close and the new technologies allow us to fly high, dream of a better world, and we can simply because we are organized horizontally, creating independent networks.
We are the generation of free culture: very simple concept and potentially revolutionary. Especially when the associate collective intelligence, the result, collaboration, public space.
I want my daily activities, personal and professional do it this cultural revolution.
I just want to be happy. A very simple thing. I want to say. My goal is to be happy and to be so I need to change the world. Change the world. The small one. What newspaper. I want to be peaceful while changing the world. While I make the revolution. The more time I spend with people close to me the more I realize that I am close to my goal. We are living through a very interesting time of change. A revolution.
I want to participate!
